The city of Austin has developed a process for evaluating capital improvement projects to determine which are more likely to move the city towards sustainability. Called the CIP Sustainability Matrix, it is a spin-off from the city's Green Building Program. The city also developed a set of indicators reported in Building a Sustainable Community, which was presented to the Austin City Council March 12, 1997.
